The antennas are made from dowel and copper elbow joints. The fitted plastic ends are PVC pipe that I hand cut to a flush angle. Nearly finished.

BUT I covered it in plasti-dip to seal the hoses I put on and as such, it's probably just as hot as your latex idea. The best of both...
