But while fanatic can be negative in many (but not all) cases, nerd can't be negative, I don't think -- it's not a strong enough word. And a nerd can (and often is) knowledgeable about many things, not just one. WebI think nerds are pretty useless in life and end up getting rubbish jobs. I personally knew a nerd who matched pretty much every stereotype of one.
